knee pain, could someone help me or something?

I used to play baseball and I caught, didnt use knee savers cause i thought they got in the way, quit baseball, thurned to skatboarding, quit after I hurt my lower knee, didnt go get medical help, then i went to bmx, fell in love with bikes, then found MTB which is more exciting than bmx, but still puts pressure on my knees, I started playing basketball (vigorous) and my knees started to hurt, do i need a brace or something? the pain is under the patella, is it the patellar ligament or something else? should i use a brace? if so which one?

Start with good sneakers, I found out that when I played basketball my knees would hurt after I played and continue to hurt till the next time I played then the pain would start all over again. Quite by accident i switched sneakers and my knee pain went away. My friend was having the same problem (reebok sneakers) and I told him that I had luck with a different brand and he tried it too and it worked for him as well. As far as a brace I did tear my ACL playing basketball and I had a Lennox hill which was custom made. I found out later that a brace from my local sporting goods store worked just as well. I used the one with the steel hing in it and that gave very good stability for my knee. Personally I feel the more support the better with knee pain. I haven’t played basketball in a few years but I still use the brace from time to time to help with my knee pain. Good luck and be careful cause ACL repairs suck!
