what are my chances of playing college baseball?
i live in rhode island and want to stay local but im looking at playing D1 or D2 ball
what are my chances and what schools would be good for me? I wanna go to college for business so a business school would be preferable. I am a junior and my stats through 5 games this year are:
Batting (im a pitcher and not too great of a hitter):
6-20 (.300 avg)
.426 OBP
7 RBI
4 Runs Scored
3 K
Pitching:
3 starts
3 CG
2-1 record
19 IP
2.58 ERA
19 K
7 BB
21 Hits allowed
I throw an 83-85 mph fastball, a great 12-6 curve thats around 68 mph (my out pitch), and a 70 mph changeup
i have great command of my fastball but i sometimes struggle to throw strikes with the curveball and change up
im 12th in my class of over 400 with a GPA of 3.9 and i got an 1880 on my first SATs (710 math)
Continue to develop your arm strength, the control will come.
There are some schools with both D1 teams and have business as an area of study:
University of Rhode Island
U. of Vermont
Boston College
Northeastern
Ivy League (Harvard, Yale)
Work Hard, BE CONIDENT, Work Harder, give 110%.
Everything else will fall into place. Good Luck.

The Soul Of Baseball $9.59 When legendary Negro League player Buck O’Neil asked Joe Posnanski how he fell in love with baseball the renowned sports columnist was inspired by the question. He decided to spend the 2005 baseball season touring the country with the ninety-four-year-old O’Neil in hopes of rediscovering the love that first drew them to the game. The Soul of Baseball is as much the story of Buck O’Neil as it is the story of baseball. Driven by a relentless optimism and his two great passions-for America’s pastime and for jazz America’s music-O’Neil played solely for love. In an era when greedy steroid-enhanced athletes have come to characterize professional ball Posnanski offers a salve for the damaged spirit: the uplifting life lessons of a truly extraordinary man who never missed an opportunity to enjoy and love life. |

Bases Loaded: The Inside Story Of The Steroid Era In Baseball By The Central Figure In The Mitchell Report $20.79 Game of Shadows meets Ball Four in this explosive inside account of baseballs steroid era On a quiet street on Long Island early on a December morning in 2005, more than fifty federal agents stood outside a lovely new home waiting for the front door to be opened. When it did, there stood the central figure in one of the biggest scandals in sports history: Kirk Radomski. Radomski was a regular New York kid who, from the age of fifteen had the amazing fortune of working in the Mets clubhouse. The focus of his job was to give the players whatever they wanted or neededhe got their uniforms ready, packed up their homes at the end of the season, cashed their checks, and helped them beat the drug tests that would have led to suspension. And at the end of the 1986 season he even led the World Champions down Broadway during their victory parade. Eventually, he graduated to helping in other ways: providing them with steroids and human growth hormones. By the time the Feds knocked on his door, he was the main clubhouse supplier of performance-enhancing drugs to almost three hundred baseball players. Under threat of a long prison sentenceand after being identified by players hed helpedhe cooperated with Senator George Mitchell to produce the Mitchell Report, providing names and dates. Now hes ready to tell the whole story to the world. Radomski made little money from these transactions, and in this stunning book he will recount what baseball knew about the problem, his life since the report came out, and who took what. This is the tale of a young man seeing his heroes turn into clay, and the degradation of a once great sport into the drug-addicted spectacle it has become.Game of Shadows meets Ball Four in this explosive inside account of baseballs steroid era On a quiet street on Long Island early on a December morning in 2005, more than fifty federal agents stood outside a lovely new home waiting for the front door to be opened. They Live $10.87 Rated: RSynopsis: In this era of retro-chic it is genuinely surprising that John Carpenter’s They Live hasn’t caught on as a cult favorite, because this 1988 alien invasion satire is the most dead-on shot any American filmmaker has taken at life in the Reagan years. 1980s wrestling star “Rowdy” Roddy Piper is John Nada, an idealistic drifter who still believes in America — until a pair of sunglasses allows him to see that the consumerist paradise he lives in is actually an alien paradise. The most socially-minded sci-fi movie since Don Siegel’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, They Live is an out-and-out condemnation of the rampant materialism in this nation at the time. Often passed over in the lexicon of excellent science fiction and horror directors, Carpenter (John Carpenter’s The Thing) loads his film with plenty of over-the-top sequences (including the longest fight ever, between Piper and Keith David) to make the satire as fun as it is bitingly intelligent. Pete SegallJohn Carpenter wrote and directed this science fiction thriller about a group of aliens who try to take over the world by disguising themselves as Young Republicans. Wrestler Roddy Piper stars as John Nada, a drifted who makes his way into an immense encampment for the homeless. There he stumbles upon a conspiracy concerning aliens who have hypnotized the populace through subliminal messages transmitted through television, magazines, posters, and movies. When Nada looks through special Ray-Bans developed by the resistance leaders, the aliens lose their clean-cut “Dan Quayle” looks and resemble crusty-looking reptiles. Nada joins the underground, teaming up with rebel-leader Frank (Keith David) to eradicate the lizard-like aliens from the body politic. Greg Maddux Atlanta Braves MLB Autographed Official Baseball $379.99 Enjoy this item hand signed by Greg Maddux of the MLB Atlanta Braves. Greg Maddux was the first pitcher in major league history to win the Cy Young Award for four consecutive years (1992-1995), a feat matched only by Randy Johnson (1999-2002). During those four consecutive seasons, Maddux had a 75-29 record with a 1.98 ERA, while allowing less than one runner per inning. Fair Ball: A Fan’s Case For Baseball $9.89 From his perspective as a journalist and a true fan, Bob Costas, NBC’s award-winning broadcaster, shares his views on the forces that are diminishing the appeal of Major League Baseball and proposes realistic changes that can be made to protect and promote the game’s best interests. In this cogent–and provocative–book, Costas examines the growing financial disparities that have resulted in nearly two-thirds of the teams in Major League Baseball having virtually no chance of contending for the World Series. He argues that those who run baseball have missed the crucial difference between mere change and real progress. And he presents a withering critique of the positions of both the owners and players while providing insights on the wild-card system, the designated-hitter rule, and interleague play. Costas answers each problem he cites with an achievable strategy for restoring genuine competition and rescuing fans from the forces that have diluted the sheer joy of the game. Balanced by Costas’s unbridled appreciation for what he calls the "moments of authenticity" that can still make baseball inspiring, Fair Ball offers a vision of our national pastime as it can be, a game that retains its traditional appeal while initiating meaningful changes that will allow it to thrive into the next century. From the Hardcover edition. |

10 Drills for Championship Baseball (DVD) $39.99 With Jim Morris,University of Miami Head Coach;over 1,000 career wins, 2x National Coach of the YearCoach Morris brings together all elements of the game of baseball in this impressive DVD. Starting with developing a game plan, details out the essentials of the game. Morris presents a three-step plan for drills. First, drills are performed dry and slow without a ball. Next, drills should be executed with a ball and no runners. Next, they are performed live and game-like. Morris presents 10 drills for developing a winning team. These drills include the 3-minute drill, which is a ground ball and throw drill. Next, infielders turn double plays in a variety of situations in several 3- minute segments. The three-line pick drill is for pitchers to work on pick-offs. Run downs are covered with infielders and pitchers. This drill is a constantly moving drill involving all players in three lines. Pop up priorities expose players to every possible situation that may arise during a game. Cut-off and relays are covered in drills as well. Three different bunt defenses are discussed; crash, pick and regular bunt defense. Offensively, the base running drill presents multiple situations that are full speed and game-like. Every possible situation is covered, giving players the confidence needed to execute during the game. Reaction is a big part of baseball and these situation drills will test each player’s ability to react properly.25 minutes. 2006. |

Playing With The Enemy A Baseball Prodigy A World At War And A Field Of Broken Dreams $9.29 Foreword by baseball legend Jim Morris former Major League pitcher with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.It was true in the 1940s and it is still true today: if you have talent someone will notice. In Gene Moore’s case that someone was the Brooklyn Dodgers.Gene Moore was a farm boy living with his family in Sesser Illinois a town so small even map makers ignored it. As a teenager when he wasn’t in school or helping his Pop on the farm slopping the hogs and doing other chores with his older brother Ward and five sisters Gene was playing baseball with the guys on the town team. Some were twice his age. The older fellows didn’t mind having the Moore kid on their team because he could hit the ball farther than anyone else he was the best catcher anyone had ever seen he could throw men out from his knees and not a ball ever got past him. Gene was 15 years old. Word quickly spread across the United States about the country boy who could hit the ball a country mile. The Dodgers wanted to take a look at this farm kid barely old enough to shave and still awaiting his first kiss but brash enough to call the pitches from behind the plate and motion to the infielders and outfielders as to how they should position themselves for certain hitters. Headed for baseball stardom with the Brooklyn Dodgers Gene’s destiny was interrupted by Pearl Harbor. After playing ball for the Navy in the Azores and North Africa Gene and his team were sent to the States for a special and top secret mission: guarding German sailors captured from U-505. Unable to field a team Gene convinced his commander to allow him to teach the enemy how to play baseball while he and his teammates waited for the war to end so they could be called up into the Major Leagues. But Gene’s future changed irrevocably in Louisiana. His life . . . and maybe our national pastime . . . was forever altered. Inspired by true events Playing with the Enemy is the riveting story of a depression-era youth and his brush with destiny. Author Gary Moore Gene’s son did not learn of his father’s remarkable odyssey through World War II and the hardships of minor league baseball until the day before Gene’s death. Confronted with evidence of a possible career in baseball Gene finally broke his decades of silence and spent the next several hours relieving himself of the heavy burden he had been carrying. The stunning news sent the author on his own odyssey as he researched his father’s life and interviewed dozens of people. |

Revenue has never been higher attendance has never been better and baseball has never had a stronger international presence. Yet with all of the prosperity the game has rarely faced more significant problems both in the headlines and deep within our communities. Steroid scandals labor strife self-centered superstars a dramatic decline in the number of African American players and fans constraints on Little League facilities and resources and competition from trendier sports and entertainment options all threaten the foundations of our national pastime. Dave Winfield knows and loves the game and he believes baseball can be rescued and revitalized. In Dropping the Ball Dave presents his compelling plan of action for saving this great game from self-destruction. A respected role model and ambassador of the sport Winfield outlines his strategy for making baseball the game he knows it can be: inclusive empowering and entertaining. He focuses on how to make the game more fan-friendly and especially how to reach out to the African American community. From the commissioner’s office to the kids on the street Winfield examines the game from every perspective offering ideas and solutions for diversifying front offices; marketing the game; developing community-based programs; and working out fair creative and lucrative parameters for the business of baseball. Dropping the Ball inspires readers to get out of the armchair and into the action. Have Glove, Will Travel: Adventures Of A Baseball Vagabond $5.99 It was 1982 when Bill Lee was famously booted from the Montreal Expos after he went AWOL in protest of another player’s mistreatment by management. His reputation for antics both on and off the field guaranteed that no other club would pick him up. The Ace from Space had landed on professional baseball’s blacklist, and so it was that one of the most popular major-league pitchers of our day was fated to pack his bags and wander the globe searching for a ball game. Have Glove, Will Travel is the chronicle of an amazing odyssey that began more than twenty years ago and continues today. Unable to live without baseball, Lee went anywhere he could find a game, beginning in the dank and dreary locker room of a Canadian hockey team that later became a softball team. We follow him around the world as he competes in pickup games, town tournaments, senior leagues, and fantasy camps, barnstorming like a modern Satchel Paige around the United States, South America, China, Cuba, Russia, and every province in Canada. At the heart of this story are the rollicking, colorful characters Lee meets during his travels, and the mishaps that befall him whether he’s sober or stoned. There’s the eccentric Latin pitching master Lee plays with in Cuba, who once struck out Ernest Hemingway. And a hilarious story that takes place in the backwoods of a British Columbia timber town, where Lee and Hall-of-Famer Ferguson Jenkins go fishing and end up being chased back to their pickup truck by a 450-pound black bear. Have Glove, Will Travel is so much more than the average baseball book. Lee’s humor, keen eye for detail, and extraordinary pitching intellect are always on display, but in the end this book is a love story about a middle-aged maverick who refused to stop pursuing his passion for a boy’s game long after the grown-ups told him he couldn’t play on their team anymore. Readers who loved Lee’s bestselling The Wrong Stuff , also written with Richard Lally, will find the long wait for this rich and wonderful sequel well worth it. Those who haven’t yet encountered the literary Bill Lee have a great treat in store. From the Hardcover edition. |

Rich Natural Leather Victory Line Baseball Glove from Past Time Sports $68.95 Rich natural leather color Victory Glove… Think of the era of Cobb, Shoelace Joe, Tinkers to Evers to Chance and the early Babe, Honus Wagner, and many others. They all had to handle wicked line drives and sizzling grounders in the earliest gloves just like this one. The gloves of this time period were much smaller and they were called split finger gloves as there was no webbing between the fingers. Now you know why they always said “Two hands, Two hands”. Handling a baseball in those days took tremendous skill and toughness as there was little padding in the first gloves. This beautiful natural leather style early teens and 20s style glove is our biggest seller. So authentic that they have been sold at the National Baseball Hall of Fame Museum in Cooperstown! Early vintage baseball gloves have become almost extinct. When found they bring museum prices. Past Time Sports makes commemorative replicas of the great baseball gloves of the early golden years of baseball. The Victory, the natural leather “Double Play” and The Victory “Black Jack” model gloves are exact duplicates of the great fielders gloves of the 1920’s decade. They are hand stitched and hand sewn exactly like many of the early gloves were made. Made from an exact pattern taken from an original old glove. They were smaller than the modern day gloves by far. The fielders of the early years of baseball had to rely more on their hand and eye coordination and acrobatic abilities to stab line drives and hot grounders that sizzled through the infields and out fields of ball parks all over the nation. From the back street lots of the small towns of America to the upper decks of the big city stadiums, the simplicity and beauty of the early old baseball gloves of our National Pastime endeared themselves into the hearts of all of America. This old glove is a great gift idea or trophy idea for those who love baseball and its origins and great players of long ago. Righty style only! |
