The Internet’s Savvy Is Not Free From The Bog Down
At the extent of the Internet’s conquest of the road to advancement, the leaders of the search engines still have moments of silence and slowness when faced with certain information queries. This have instigated the gracious duo, Answers. Com and Ask. com, to commit to giving more competent answers to the challenging and blunt questions about history, science, geography, pop culture and sports. If you like this search engine optimization article check out website marketing australia for more top quality information.
These search engines are geared to serve an exact answer definitively at the top of the first page of the result or with a link in the prioritized slot to a Web page bearing the sought information. However, their mission might have a hard time convincing everybody. In reality, how much do these search engines know? To answer my question, I performed what I may call an unscientific test to post some questions borrowed from an edition of trivial pursuit from of late. My imitation game multiply pierced the promised superiority of answers. com and ask. com as opposed to the Internet’s most widely preferred search engines Google, yahoo, and MSN.
With questions like what glass beads are created when a meteorite strikes the earth’s surface, answers. com and ask. com fared a little higher than Google but markedly ahead of yahoo and MSN. Answers. Com and Ask. Com alike led me to tektites, the correct answer, with the first link on the results page, which was a performance displayed to 10 questions out of 20 during the game.
Different techniques were used by Answers. Com and Ask. Com but the performances were about the same. The latter relies on a combination of Google’s search engine and human editors who have stoked its database with answers to frequently asked questions that they’ve obtained by poring through reference materials. Ask, part of a Web family that has been acquired by an ecommerce conglomerate for $2 billion, has devised a fully automated approach that fishes through the Internet’s sea of information. More expert search engine optimization information is located at online marketing services.
Although this task is admittedly their expertise, Answers. Com and Ask. Com predominantly forget their goal of making things as apparent as possible by shortening the correct response at the topmost part of the results page to avoid having to click a link first before proceeding to the Web site. When I searched for the meaning of Google, the first of two instances Ask. Com gave out a concise Web answer transpired, an accomplishment only done once by Answers. Com.
When I tried out questions that the Internet encounters the most, the correct answer appeared on the first link in eight out of 20 questions, inclusive of the tektite question. There was only one question that baffled all the search engines. Who was the first delinquent of Cuban decent to play in major league baseball? Rene is the answer we await, who happened to pitch and play for the Cardinals in the early 1990s, but none of the search engines figured that out.
Though MSN was quite behind in a larger portion of the contest, it had a single moment to shine when one of the questions was asked. Pinpoint the company which was taken over with the highest deal throughout history. The top link on the results page of MSN did lead me to a site stating the correct answer, Nabisco Subsidiary. The test also stressed out the disadvantage of leaning on search engines where they sometimes link to sites with contradicting answers.
The highest occurrence of such scenario happened when I searched for the number of viewers who watched the series finale of the TV show mash. The contenders had linked me to websites giving 105. 9 million until 125 million. This confirms the movie theme song which, in my own version, says getting online answers have yet to be pain free.

The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract $11.99 When Bill James published his original Historical Baseball Abstract in 1985, he produced an immediate classic, hailed by the Chicago Tribune as the "holy book of baseball." Now, baseball’s beloved "Sultan of Stats" (The Boston Globe) is back with a fully revised and updated edition for the new millennium. Like the original, The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract is really several books in one. The Game provides a century’s worth of American baseball history, told one decade at a time, with energetic facts and figures about How, Where, and by Whom the game was played. In The Players, you’ll find listings of the top 100 players at each position in the major leagues, along with James’s signature stats-based ratings method called "Win Shares," a way of quantifying individual performance and calculating the offensive and defensive contributions of catchers, pitchers, infielders, and outfielders. And there’s more: the Reference section covers Win Shares for each season and each player, and even offers a Win Share team comparison. A must-have for baseball fans and historians alike, The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract is as essential, entertaining, and enlightening as the sport itself. |

Reggie Jackson: The Life And Thunderous Career Of Baseball’s Mr. October $19.49 Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson earned the nickname "Mr. October" for the crucial clutch hitting that led his teams to the World Series six times and won him two series MVP awards, and this skill at the plate is perhaps what he is best remembered for. But behind the bat was a man many don’t knowa man struggling to find his place in the world, at home, and in the sport that made him a star. Now, in the first biography of Jackson in more than twenty-five yearsand the first to cover his entire career as a playerFOXSports.com columnist Dayn Perry provides an intimate, honest, and never-before-seen glimpse into the life and times of one of baseball’s all-time greats. A cantankerous man full of swagger with a fearsome talent to match, Jackson was an outspoken iconoclast as a playera gift that made him friends and enemies of some of the most colorful characters in the game. As large a presence on the field as he was outside the ballpark, Jackson backed up his talk by establishing himself as one of the best sluggers the sport has ever seen. Yet Jackson’s story is about more than sports prowess. His life reflects a time, between Jackie Robinson and Ken Griffey, Jr., when black ballplayers were accepted but still considered inferior to their white teammates. There were unspoken rules to keep the racial waters still; Jackson not only ignored such conventions, he demolished thempaving the way for true equality for all black players. From his childhood in a predominantly white neighborhood to heroics at the plate, from relationships with legendary players such as "Catfish" Hunter and Thurman Munson to battles with some of the sport’s most powerful figures, including notoriously cheap Oakland A’s owner Charlie Finley and the irascible George Steinbrenner, Reggie Jackson tells the full story of the man who was one of the first black baseball superstarsand one of the greatest players of all time. |

Earl Weaver says he has changed that umpires were "fantastic people " and that he shouldn’t have gotten thrown out of so many ballgames. Read it here for yourself. Tom Seaver one of the dominant pitchers of his era shares a funny incident from his first All-Star game when he was young and looked even younger and discloses the important piece of baseball wisdom that Gil Hodges gave him early in his career that has guided him ever since. Don Baylor recalls playing with a variety of teammates and teams including the remarkable experience of playing in three consecutive World Series with three different teams going from the 1986 Red Sox that came so close to winning the Series to the 1987 Minnesota Twins team that actually did it. Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith "the Wizard of Oz " tells the story of how he began his signature back flip and offers insights into how he was able to pull off some of the most spectacular defensive plays in baseball history. Baseball’s Iron Man Cal Ripken remembers the high expectations that came with being the son of a baseball manager and explains why the "Orioles way" was more than just a slogan for him. Bruce Froemming MLB’s longest-serving umpire reveals the rules behind the fine art of allowing managers and coaches to have their say and still maintain absolute control over the game. And Marvin Miller one of the most important figures in the history of the game explains the origins and intentions of baseball’s players’ union and why he is so proud of what it has achieved. No fan of the game will want to pass up this illustrated fascinating remembrance of two decades when baseball changed forever. |
