Why do baseball umpires signal each other? Saw it tonite?

Top of the 2nd, Stro’s at Bucs, with 1 out. I noticed the 2nd base umpire tap his head 3-4 times and tapped the side of his head next. The home plate ump tapped the side of his head afterwards in acknowledgment. What could they have been signaling?

It’s not like you can talk in a game! lol

Was someone on base? My guess is that they were signaling to remind each other that the Infield fly rule was in effect…

Also, if it was in the middle of an AB, the home plate possibly lost the count… It looks embarresing to have to ask, so the 2nd base ump could have told him the count was 3-0…

I doubt it, but some umps (I don’t do this, it’s frowned apon if discovered) will want to know weather or not they got a recent play correct… they will have their own signals of “Right”, “Wrong”, and “I don’t know” that they will pass along to each other…. This is usually done in the little leagues, not MLB… Technically, this isn’t at all against any rules (of umping or MLB), but some people that believe in ‘make up calls’ will call foul.
